✂️ My Top 5 Must-Have Tools for Scrapbooking (That I Reach for Every Single Time)

Hi crafty friends! Thanks for stopping by the blog today 💖 If you're anything like me, your craft stash is overflowing with tools, supplies, and maybe a few “what was I thinking?” purchases (no judgment here!). But when it comes to what I actually use for nearly every project, there are a few tools that have stood the test of time.

Today I’m sharing my Top 5 Scrapbooking Tools — the ones that I reach for layout after layout, and honestly couldn't imagine creating without.

1. 📏 My Trusty Paper Trimmer

Let’s kick things off with the tool I literally can’t scrapbook without: my paper trimmer. I’ve tried quite a few over the years, but my current favourite is the Tim Holtz Precision Craft Trimmer — and I’m obsessed.

Here’s why:

  • Spring-lift blade track with imperial and metric measurements (yes please!)
  • ¼ inch grid base with standard card sizes marked
  • Fold-out rulers that extend to 12 inches (30 cm) but tuck away neatly for storage

It’s smooth, accurate, and just the right size — I use it for trimming paper, photos, and even chipboard pieces. If you’re in the market for a new trimmer, this one’s a total win.

2. 🧡 A Variety of Adhesives

Let’s talk about sticky stuff. I use a lot of adhesives — and no, one type does not fit all! I like having options depending on what I’m working on.

Here are a few of my go-tos:

Having a mix of adhesives on hand makes creating easier, cleaner, and way more fun!

3. ✂️ Sharp Scissors (for the Love of Fussy Cutting)

Every scrapbooker needs a pair of scissors that just works. My absolute favourite right now? The Tim Holtz Haberdashery Scissors. These beauties are super sharp and glide through paper like butter, which makes fussy cutting a breeze.

They’re heavy-duty without feeling bulky, and the fine tips are perfect for detail work. I may or may not own more than one pair… but that’s between us, right?Tim Holtz Haberdashery Scissors 5"

4. 🧼 Craft Mats That Save My Workspace

This might not be the flashiest tool on my list, but trust me — having a solid work surface makes all the difference.

My two absolute must-haves:

  • Tim Holtz 23" x 14" Glass Media Mat – I love this mat. It has both imperial and metric grid markings, a white mixing palette area, and comes with a non-stick, anti-slip mat that’s removable and easy to clean. It’s fantastic for inking, painting, or any messy mixed media work.

  • Ranger Non-Stick Craft Sheet (15" x 18") – This one is essential for heat embossing, gluing, and just about anything messy. Nothing sticks to it, and clean-up is a breeze!Ranger Non Stick Craft Sheet, 15" x 18"

Between the two, I always have a clean and functional space to work on — and my table is very thankful.

5. 📐 Rulers That Keep Me Straight (Literally)

I used to wing it… and then I discovered how much better layouts look when everything’s lined up properly! That’s when a good ruler became my best friend.

The Tim Holtz Tonic Media Ruler (12"x2") is a total standout. Here’s what I love:

🔹 Dual steel cutting edges — perfect for trimming with a craft knife
🔹 Clear plastic with imperial & metric markings
🔹 Integrated craft pick guide — ideal for spacing and piercing
🔹 Non-slip grip rails — no more slipping mid-line
🔹 It’s just the right size: wide enough to grip, small enough to store

It’s beautifully designed, sturdy, and has everything you didn’t realise you needed in a ruler. I honestly use it in nearly every project — from journaling lines to perfectly spaced embellishments.

Honourable Mentions

Because I can’t help myself… here are a few extras that are also close to my heart:

  • Bone folder – great for mini albums and crisp card folds
  • Heat tool – perfect for speeding up ink drying or embossing
  • Corner rounder/Punches – makes everything feel finished and polished

So there you have it — my Top 5 Scrapbooking Tools that I truly can’t live without. Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned scrapper like me, having the right tools makes all the difference in how your projects come together.

Now I want to hear from you! What are YOUR must-have tools? Do we have any in common? Let me know in the comments or send me a message — I’d love to hear what you can’t create without.

Until next time, happy crafting! 💕
